Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction preventing fan rotation, Broken fan blade, Loose or damaged fan wiring harness, Faulty main control board fan driver

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing the evaporator cover or touching the fan. Fan blades can be sharp.

Steps:

  • Access fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
  • Check for ice blockage: Look for ice buildup around the fan shroud. If present, allow the unit to fully defrost with the power off. Do not pry ice off the blades.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan blade by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding or wobbling. Replace the evaporator fan motor if it is seized or noisy.
  • Inspect wiring: Verify that the fan connector is fully seated and that wires are not cut or pinched by the panel.
  • Voltage test (advanced): With the unit carefully powered and door switch held closed, check for proper DC or AC voltage (per wiring diagram) at the fan connector. If voltage is present but the fan does not run, the motor is defective.
  • Replace motor: Remove mounting screws, transfer the fan blade to the new motor, and reinstall. Ensure the blade is oriented correctly and not rubbing the shroud.
  • Control board check: If no voltage is supplied to a known-good fan, suspect a main control board failure.

Warning: Only perform live voltage tests if you are trained and comfortable working around energized circuits.
