Possible Causes
Failed ambient thermistor, Loose or corroded thermistor connector, Broken wiring between thermistor and control board, Defective electronic control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the control housing or wiring.
- Step 1 – Identify sensor location: The ambient or cabinet thermistor is often located near the air return or in the control housing at the top of the freezer compartment.
- Step 2 – Visual inspection: Remove the control cover and inspect the thermistor and its harness. Look for discoloration, corrosion, or broken insulation.
- Step 3 – Reseat connectors: Unplug and replug the thermistor connector at both the sensor and control board ends to ensure a solid connection.
- Step 4 – Test thermistor (advanced): Measure resistance at room temperature and compare to specifications in the service manual. Replace if open, shorted, or significantly out of range.
- Step 5 – Replace control board if needed: If a known-good thermistor is installed and E2 remains, the main control board likely has a failed sensor input and should be replaced by a technician.
