Possible Causes
Stuck or iced-over air damper, Failed damper motor, Misaligned air duct assembly, Control board not driving damper correctly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing interior duct covers or working near moving damper parts.
- Step 1 – Inspect air vents: Look for frost or ice around the air outlets and returns inside the freezer. Clear any visible ice with warm water and towels.
- Step 2 – Access damper (if separate): On some JennAir models, the damper is behind a cover near the top or side wall. Remove the cover to inspect the damper door.
- Step 3 – Check for binding: Move the damper door gently by hand (with power off). It should move freely. Remove any ice or debris preventing movement.
- Step 4 – Test damper motor: Restore power and change the temperature setting to see if the damper moves. If it does not respond and wiring is intact, the damper motor may be faulty.
- Step 5 – Replace damper assembly: Install a new JennAir-compatible damper control if the motor or door mechanism is defective.
