Possible Causes
Thermistor reading extreme temperature due to failure, Wiring short to line or neutral, Control board misreading sensor, Actual extreme overtemperature event
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer. If there is any burning smell or visible smoke, do not restore power and contact a professional immediately.
- Step 1 – Verify actual temperature: Use a separate thermometer to check the real freezer temperature. If it is near normal, the sensor reading is likely faulty.
- Step 2 – Inspect thermistor wiring: Look for melted insulation or wires touching hot components.
- Step 3 – Replace suspect thermistor: If the freezer thermistor is discolored or tests out of range, replace it.
- Step 4 – Reset and monitor: Restore power and monitor operation. If F2 returns quickly, the control board may be defective and should be replaced by a technician.
