Possible Causes
Door left open or frequently opened, Evaporator fan not running, Condenser coils clogged with dust, Failed compressor or sealed system leak
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing internal components, fans, or removing panels.
- Step 1 – Check door and gasket: Ensure the door is fully closing and nothing inside is blocking it. Inspect the door gasket for gaps, tears, or hardened sections. Clean the gasket with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly.
- Step 2 – Reduce door openings: Keep the door closed as much as possible for several hours to allow temperature to recover. Overloading or frequent access can trigger HI alarms.
- Step 3 – Clean condenser coils: Pull the unit away from the wall. Unplug it. Use a coil brush and vacuum to remove dust from the condenser coils and the condenser fan area (usually behind a lower rear or front grille). Restore power and verify the condenser fan runs when the compressor is on.
- Step 4 – Check evaporator fan operation: Open the door and press the door switch in; you should hear the evaporator fan running after a short delay. If silent, the fan motor or wiring may be faulty.
- Step 5 – Monitor temperature: If the freezer does not reach 0°F (-18°C) within 12–24 hours after cleaning and checking airflow, there may be a sealed system or compressor issue that requires a professional technician.
