Possible Causes
Freezer temperature set too low, Defective freezer thermistor (temperature sensor), Stuck or shorted electronic control board relay, Air damper stuck open (on combo units with shared system)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing control panels or accessing wiring.
- Step 1 – Check temperature setting: Verify the setpoint on the control panel. Adjust to the recommended 0°F (-18°C) and wait 24 hours to see if the temperature stabilizes.
- Step 2 – Inspect product loading: Avoid blocking air vents inside the freezer. Overpacking can cause uneven temperatures and overcooling in some areas.
- Step 3 – Reset control: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in to reset the electronic control. Re-enter your desired temperature setting.
- Step 4 – Check thermistor connection: If accessible, locate the freezer thermistor (usually clipped to the evaporator cover or liner wall). Ensure its connector is fully seated on the main control board and that the sensor is not hanging loose from its mounting clip.
- Step 5 – If LO persists: A faulty thermistor or control board may be misreading temperature and overdriving the compressor. Replacement of the thermistor or main control board is typically required and may be best handled by a technician.
