Kenmore freezer displays dO or DO; door alarm sounds even when door appears closed.

Possible Causes
Stuck or failed door switch, Misaligned door not fully engaging switch, Broken switch wiring, Magnet/reed sensor failure on some models
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing any switch or trim pieces.
Steps to address dO/DO:
- 1. Check door closure: Ensure no food packages or shelves are preventing the door from closing fully. Inspect the gasket for warping that might hold the door open.
- 2. Locate the door switch: On many Kenmore freezers, the switch is in the door frame near the top, activated when the door closes.
- 3. Test the switch manually: Press the switch plunger in and out. You should hear a distinct click. If the interior light does not turn off when pressed (with power on), the switch may be faulty.
- 4. Remove and test switch: Unplug the freezer, gently pry out the switch, disconnect the wires, and test continuity with a multimeter. It should change state (open/closed) when pressed.
- 5. Replace if defective: Install a new Kenmore-compatible door switch or sensor. Reconnect wires securely and snap the switch back into place.
- 6. Verify operation: Restore power and confirm that the door alarm clears and the interior light behaves correctly.
Note: On some models, a magnetic reed sensor in the cabinet or door may be used instead of a plunger switch; replacement procedure is similar but may require accessing wiring in the door.
