Possible Causes
Door gasket leak, Door frequently left open, Failed defrost system (heater, thermostat, or control), Cracked inner liner allowing moist air in
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before defrosting. Do not use sharp tools or open flames to remove ice.
Steps to reduce frost:
- 1. Perform a manual defrost: Remove food to a cooler, unplug the freezer, and allow all ice to melt. Use towels to absorb water.
- 2. Inspect door gasket: After defrosting, check the gasket for gaps or damage. Replace if it does not seal evenly all around.
- 3. Check door usage: Minimize door openings and ensure the door is not left ajar by items inside.
- 4. Evaluate defrost system: If frost quickly returns on the evaporator area, test the defrost heater and thermostat as described in E4/E5.
Note: A small amount of frost is normal in manual-defrost chest freezers, but heavy buildup indicates a problem.
