Possible Causes
Worn evaporator fan motor bearings, Ice rubbing on fan blades, Fan blade misaligned on shaft
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing interior panels. Fan blades can be sharp.
Steps to fix squealing/chirping:
- 1. Access evaporator fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the fan.
- 2. Check for ice: Look for ice buildup around the fan shroud. Defrost any ice using warm air and towels.
- 3. Spin fan blade: With power off, spin the blade by hand. If it feels rough or squeals, the motor bearings are worn.
- 4. Replace fan motor: Remove mounting screws, disconnect wiring, and install a new Kenmore-compatible evaporator fan motor. Transfer the blade if it is separate.
- 5. Reassemble and test: Restore power and confirm the noise is gone.
Note: Do not lubricate sealed fan motors; replacement is the proper repair.
