Possible Causes
Weak or warped door gasket, Freezer cabinet out of level causing poor door alignment, Door switch intermittent, Door hinges loose or sagging
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Leveling and gasket checks can be done with power on. Disconnect power before adjusting hinges or removing panels.
- Step 1 – Verify level: Place a level on top of the freezer front-to-back and side-to-side. Adjust the leveling legs so the front is slightly higher than the back; this helps the door close by gravity.
- Step 2 – Inspect hinges: Check the top and bottom hinges for looseness. Tighten hinge screws with the correct screwdriver while supporting the door.
- Step 3 – Gasket test: Perform the dollar-bill test: close the door on a dollar bill at several points around the gasket. You should feel resistance when pulling it out. If it slides out easily in spots, the gasket may need replacement.
- Step 4 – Clean and reshape gasket: Clean the gasket with warm soapy water. If it is slightly warped, gently warm it with a hair dryer on low while pulling it into shape, then let it cool in the correct position.
- Step 5 – Check door switch: Press the door switch manually and confirm the alarm stops. If the alarm is erratic, replace the switch.
If the dr indication remains even with a good switch and seal, the control board’s door input circuit may be defective and require professional service.
