Possible Causes
Recent power outage, Freezer door left open after power restored, Warm food loaded immediately after outage, Control not reset after power return
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: This is an informational alarm, not an electrical fault. You can safely clear it without unplugging the unit.
- Step 1 – Confirm power outage: Verify that there was a recent power interruption in your home. Check other appliances or clocks that may have reset.
- Step 2 – Check door seal and closure: Make sure the freezer door is fully closed and the gasket is sealing all the way around. Remove any items blocking the door from closing.
- Step 3 – Clear the PO code: On most KitchenAid freezers, press and hold the Alarm Reset or Measure-Fill/Confirm button (model dependent) for 3–5 seconds until the alarm stops and the display returns to normal.
- Step 4 – Check temperature: Place an appliance thermometer in the freezer. After 24 hours, verify that the temperature is at or below 0°F (-18°C). Adjust the temperature setting if needed.
- Step 5 – Food safety: If food has thawed and is above 40°F (4°C) for more than 2 hours, discard per food safety guidelines.
If the PO alarm returns repeatedly without actual power outages, the control or power supply may need professional diagnosis.
