Possible Causes

Defective ambient NTC sensor in control fascia, Loose or oxidized connector at display PCB, Damaged wiring between ambient sensor and main PCB, Faulty display/control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect the appliance from mains before opening the control panel or display housing.

Steps to address E3 (ambient sensor):

  • 1. Confirm environment: Ensure the freezer is installed in a room within the specified ambient range (typically 10–38°C). Extremely cold garages can trigger sensor-related issues.
  • 2. Access control fascia: Remove the screws securing the top/front control panel or display module on your Leisure freezer. Carefully pull the panel forward to expose the wiring.
  • 3. Identify ambient sensor: The ambient NTC is often a small probe or bead-type sensor located near the display or behind a small vent in the fascia. Trace the thin wires from the vent area to the PCB.
  • 4. Inspect and reseat: Check for loose plugs, damaged insulation, or corrosion. Unplug and replug the sensor connector to clean contacts.
  • 5. Measure resistance: With the freezer unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values (e.g., 5–10 kΩ at 25°C). Replace if reading is out of range or unstable when gently flexed.
  • 6. Replace sensor if needed: Fit a compatible Leisure ambient NTC sensor. Route the cable as originally installed and ensure the sensor tip is positioned in the airflow path of the fascia vent.
  • 7. Check display PCB: If the sensor tests good, inspect the display/control PCB for burnt components or cracked solder joints. Replacement of the display PCB may be required.
  • 8. Reassemble and test: Refit the fascia, restore power, and monitor for several hours. The E3 code should clear automatically if the fault is resolved.
