Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole behind evaporator, Ice plug in drain tube, Debris blocking drain tray, Cracked or misaligned drain tube
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer and protect the floor with towels before defrosting.
Steps:
- 1. Access drain: Remove the rear inner panel to expose the evaporator. Locate the small drain hole at the bottom of the evaporator tray.
- 2. Clear ice: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or syringe to melt ice in the drain hole. Repeat until water flows freely.
- 3. Clean drain tube: From the rear, locate the drain tube leading to the drip tray above the compressor. Gently pass a flexible plastic rod or pipe cleaner through to clear debris.
- 4. Check drip tray: Ensure the tray is correctly positioned and not cracked. Replace the drain tube or drip tray if damaged.
- 5. Reassemble and monitor: After clearing, reassemble panels and monitor for further leaks.
