Possible Causes

Defective ice room thermistor, Loose or corroded sensor connector, Damaged harness between ice room and main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the ice room or upper compartments.

On LG models with a dedicated ice room, E5 points to a sensor fault in that compartment.

  • Access ice room: Remove the ice bin and any covers to expose the ice maker and surrounding housing.
  • Locate sensor: Find the small thermistor embedded in the ice room wall or clipped near the ice maker. It may be behind a small plastic cover.
  • Inspect wiring: Check for pinched wires, moisture damage, or loose connectors. Dry any condensation around the sensor.
  • Test thermistor: Disconnect and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to LG specs at room temperature and when cooled. Replace if readings are out of range or intermittent.
  • Reassemble: Install the new sensor, secure wiring, and reassemble the ice room components.

If the sensor and wiring are intact but E5 persists, the main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may need professional diagnosis.
