Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Loose or damaged fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing the fan or evaporator area.

E8 indicates the control is not seeing expected feedback from the evaporator fan.

  • Access fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel of the freezer to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
  • Check for ice blockage: Look for ice buildup around the fan shroud or blades. If present, fully defrost the area. Do not pry ice off the blades.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding or wobbling. Replace the motor if it is seized or noisy.
  • Inspect wiring: Verify the fan connector is tight and wires are not cut or pinched.
  • Voltage test (advanced): With the unit powered and door switch held closed, carefully check for proper DC voltage at the fan connector (refer to LG specs). If voltage is present but the fan does not run, replace the fan motor.

If the fan and wiring are good but E8 remains, the main PCB’s fan driver circuit may be defective and should be checked by a technician.
