Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole under evaporator, Ice blocking drain trough, Cracked or misaligned drain tube, Drain pan not seated properly on compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing interior panels. Use towels to catch water.
- Locate leak source: Check if water appears at the front (door area) or from the rear/bottom.
- Access evaporator drain: Remove the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator and drain trough beneath it.
- Clear ice and debris: Melt any ice in the drain trough with warm (not boiling) water. Use a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to flush warm water down the drain hole until it flows freely into the drain pan below.
- Check drain tube: From the rear, locate the drain tube leading to the pan. Ensure it is not kinked or disconnected.
- Inspect drain pan: Verify the pan is properly positioned on the compressor and not cracked.
After clearing the drain, monitor for leaks over several days. Persistent leaks may require replacement of the drain tube or pan.
