Possible Causes
Worn condenser fan motor bearings, Fan blade hitting wiring or shroud, Compressor mounting grommets deteriorated, Refrigerant lines vibrating against cabinet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before working at the rear or bottom.
- Identify noise source: Pull the unit away from the wall and listen from the back while it is running to determine if the noise is from the fan or compressor area.
- Access rear panel: Remove the lower rear cover to expose the condenser fan and compressor.
- Inspect fan: Check if the fan blade is rubbing on wiring, tubing, or the shroud. Reposition wiring and straighten the shroud as needed.
- Check fan bearings: Spin the fan by hand. If it feels rough or wobbly, replace the condenser fan motor.
- Secure tubing: Look for copper lines touching each other or the cabinet. Add foam sleeves or clips to prevent vibration.
- Compressor mounts: Inspect rubber grommets under the compressor. If cracked or missing, have them replaced by a technician.
If the compressor itself is excessively loud and vibrating, it may be failing internally; consult a refrigeration technician.
