Possible Causes

Loose or misrouted refrigerant tubing, Worn compressor mounting grommets, Cabinet panels flexing against frame, Ice blocks shifting inside evaporator area

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before adjusting tubing or mounts.

  • Check leveling: Ensure the freezer is level front-to-back and side-to-side. Adjust leveling legs as needed.
  • Inspect rear tubing: With the rear panel removed, gently move refrigerant lines away from each other and from cabinet surfaces. Add foam or clips to prevent contact.
  • Compressor mounts: Verify the compressor is firmly held by its rubber grommets and not contacting the base directly.
  • Internal ice: If noise seems to come from inside, check for large ice blocks around the evaporator. Fully defrost if necessary.

If knocking persists and appears to be internal to the compressor, the compressor may be failing and should be evaluated by a professional.
