Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing the compressor or control board. High voltage is present in these areas.
- Verify power: Confirm the outlet has power and the plug is fully inserted. Test with another appliance.
- Listen for compressor: After plugging in, listen at the back. If the compressor is silent and no clicking is heard, suspect the start relay or control board.
- Access compressor components: Remove the rear lower panel to expose the compressor, start relay, and overload.
- Inspect relay/overload: Remove the relay/overload from the compressor terminals. Shake the relay gently; if it rattles or smells burnt, replace it with an LG-compatible start device.
- Check for overheating: If the compressor shell is extremely hot, allow it to cool before further testing.
- Reassemble and test: Install the new relay/overload, restore power, and see if the compressor starts and cooling resumes.
If the compressor still does not start or hums and then clicks off, the compressor itself or the main PCB may be faulty. Compressor replacement requires a licensed refrigeration technician.
