Possible Causes

Drain hole iced over, Poor insulation around drain, High humidity and frequent door openings, Heater not warming drain area sufficiently

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer and remove food from the bottom area.

  • Remove bottom drawer/panel: Access the bottom of the freezer compartment.
  • Break up ice (carefully): Use warm water and a plastic tool to remove ice from the bottom and around the drain opening. Do not use sharp metal tools.
  • Flush drain: Pour warm water into the drain hole until it flows freely to the drain pan.
  • Optional drain heater: On some models, an LG drain heater clip can be installed around the defrost heater and into the drain to reduce future freezing (consult parts list).

Regularly checking and clearing the drain area can prevent recurring ice buildup.
