Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole, Frozen drain tube, Cracked drain tray above compressor, Excessive frost melt due to door left open
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer and mop up any standing water to prevent slips.
- Locate defrost drain: Inside the freezer, remove the rear inner panel to find the drain hole at the bottom of the evaporator tray.
- Clear blockage: Use a soft pipe cleaner or flexible plastic rod to gently clear debris from the drain hole. Do not use sharp metal tools.
- Flush with warm water: Using a turkey baster or syringe, flush warm (not boiling) water through the drain until it flows freely into the drain pan above the compressor.
- Check external drain pan: At the rear, inspect the plastic drain tray on top of the compressor. Ensure it is not cracked or overflowing. Replace the drain tray if damaged.
- Prevent recurrence: Avoid leaving the door open for long periods, which can cause excessive frost and water.
