Possible Causes
Mechanical thermostat stuck closed, Shorted cabinet NTC sensor, Control board not cycling compressor off, Temperature setting accidentally set too low
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing the thermostat or sensors.
- Check temperature setting: Verify the control is not set to the coldest position or Super Freeze mode. Adjust to a mid-range setting and monitor for several hours.
- Test mechanical thermostat (if fitted): On chest freezers with a dial, remove the control housing and test the thermostat for continuity. It should open (no continuity) when turned to the warmest setting. If it remains closed, replace it.
- Inspect cabinet sensor (electronic models): Follow E1 steps to test the cabinet NTC. A shorted sensor will read very low resistance and cause overcooling. Replace if faulty.
- Observe compressor cycling: If the compressor never shuts off even at warmer settings, and thermostat/sensor are good, the main control board may be stuck on and require replacement.
