Possible Causes
Door left open or not sealing, Heavy warm food load recently added, Failed cabinet thermistor, Compressor or sealed system issue
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No internal electrical work is required for basic checks, but unplug the unit if you remove panels.
Immediate actions:
- Check door closure: Ensure the door is fully closing and the gasket is not obstructed by food packages or ice.
- Verify recent usage: If you recently loaded a large amount of unfrozen food, allow 12–24 hours for temperature to recover. Avoid frequent door openings.
- Inspect door gasket: Look for tears, gaps, or warped sections. Close a thin sheet of paper in various spots around the door; if it pulls out easily, the seal is weak in that area.
- Check interior temperature: Use a freezer thermometer to confirm actual temperature. If it is above 10°F (-12°C) after several hours of run time, there is a cooling problem.
- Listen for compressor and fans: Confirm that the compressor and fans are running. If they are off and H1 persists, there may be a control or sensor issue.
- Reset alarm: Many Magic Chef models allow you to silence or reset the alarm by pressing and holding the alarm or set button. If the temperature returns to normal, the code may clear on its own.
If temperature does not recover: Proceed to sensor checks (E1/E2) and compressor/fan diagnostics, or contact a technician to evaluate the sealed system.
