Possible Causes
Failed ambient thermistor near control housing, Loose or corroded thermistor connector, Damaged wiring harness to control board, Faulty electronic control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before opening the control housing or handling wiring.
- Access control housing: Remove the screws securing the top or front control panel (depending on model). Carefully lower the panel to expose the ambient thermistor and control board.
- Check connections: Reseat the thermistor connector on the control board. Look for corrosion or moisture damage.
- Test thermistor: Disconnect the ambient thermistor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to Maytag specifications. Replace if out of range.
- Inspect harness: Follow the harness for any cuts or pinched sections. Repair or replace as needed.
- Replace control board: If the thermistor and wiring test good but E2 persists, replace the electronic control board.
