Possible Causes
Door left open or not sealing, Excessive warm food recently added, Evaporator coils frosted over, Condenser coils clogged with dust
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before cleaning coils or working near moving parts.
- Check door closure: Inspect the door gasket all the way around. Remove any ice, debris, or packages preventing a tight seal. Ensure the door hinges are not sagging.
- Reduce warm load: If you recently loaded a large amount of unfrozen food, the alarm may sound until temperature recovers. Spread items out to improve airflow and avoid blocking vents.
- Clean condenser coils: Pull the freezer away from the wall. Unplug it. Use a coil brush and vacuum to clean dust from the condenser coils and compressor area (usually at the back or underneath).
- Check for heavy frost: Look at the evaporator cover (inside back wall). If you see heavy frost or ice bulging, the defrost system may be failing. Manually defrost by unplugging the unit and leaving doors open for 24 hours with towels to catch water, then restart and monitor.
- Reset alarm: Press and hold the Alarm Reset or Temp Alarm button until the alarm stops. If HI returns after 24 hours, further diagnosis of the sealed system or defrost system is needed.
