Possible Causes
Temperature control set too low, Failed temperature sensor (thermistor) reading too warm, Control board stuck in continuous run, Damaged or shorted wiring harness to thermistor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing any internal components or control boards.
- Check temperature setting: Set the freezer to the recommended setting (typically 0°F / -18°C). Wait 24 hours and recheck with a separate thermometer.
- Inspect air vents: Make sure vents inside the freezer are not blocked by food, which can cause uneven temperatures and overcooling in some areas.
- Reset control: Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in to reset the electronic control. Monitor temperature for 24 hours.
- Test thermistor (advanced): If comfortable, remove the interior panel to access the freezer thermistor. Disconnect it and measure resistance with a multimeter at known temperatures (e.g., ice water ~32°F). Compare to Maytag specs. Replace if readings are out of range.
