Freezer displays F0 and will not cool properly or runs continuously
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the freezer from mains power before removing panels or touching internal wiring. Use insulated tools and avoid working on live circuits.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Power reset: Unplug the freezer for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If F0 returns immediately, continue with diagnostics.
- 2. Locate the evaporator sensor (NTC): On most Miele freezers, the evaporator NTC is clipped to or near the evaporator coil behind the internal rear panel of the freezer compartment. Remove drawers and the inner rear panel (usually held by Torx screws).
- 3. Inspect wiring and connectors: Check the NTC sensor leads for damage, pinched insulation, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and the main control board (usually in the top or rear service compartment).
- 4. Measure NTC resistance: With power still disconnected, unplug the sensor from the harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. At around -18°C, Miele NTCs are typically in the tens of kΩ range (consult a service chart if available). An open circuit (OL) or 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
- 5. Replace the NTC sensor if faulty: If readings are out of range or intermittent when you gently flex the cable, replace the evaporator NTC with a genuine Miele part. Clip it back in the original position for correct temperature sensing.
- 6. Check main control board: If the sensor and wiring test good, the fault may be on the ELU (main PCB). Inspect for burnt components or corrosion. Board-level repair is advanced; replacement is usually required.
When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable testing resistance or accessing the control board, or if a new sensor does not clear F0, contact an authorized Miele service technician.
