Freezer displays F1 and temperature reading is erratic or shows dashes

Safety first: Disconnect mains power before removing any covers or display panels.

Steps:

• 1. Confirm symptom: Check if the interior temperature is actually stable using a separate thermometer. If the display is clearly wrong and F1 is present, proceed.
• 2. Locate cabinet NTC: The air temperature sensor is usually behind a small grill or cover in the freezer liner (side wall or rear). Remove the plastic cover carefully.
• 3. Visual inspection: Look for ice buildup around the sensor, broken wires, or signs of moisture ingress. Defrost any heavy ice with a hair dryer on low, keeping it away from plastic surfaces.
• 4. Test the sensor: Disconnect the sensor plug and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to expected NTC values for the approximate temperature. If open, shorted, or unstable when moved, replace the sensor.
• 5. Check wiring to display PCB: Trace the harness to the top/front where the display module is located. Ensure connectors are fully seated and free of corrosion.
• 6. Replace faulty parts: If the sensor is bad, install a new Miele cabinet NTC. If the sensor and wiring are good but F1 persists, the display/control PCB may need replacement.

Note: Avoid drilling or screwing into the liner to access wiring; Miele freezers have embedded refrigerant lines that can be punctured.
