Possible Causes
Open-circuit defrost safety thermostat, Loose thermostat mounting on evaporator, Wiring fault in defrost safety circuit, Failed main control sensing of thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power. Defrost components are live when energized.
Steps:
- 1. Access evaporator: Remove drawers and inner rear panel to expose the evaporator and defrost components.
- 2. Locate defrost thermostat: It is usually a small round or oval device clipped to the evaporator tubing with two wires.
- 3. Test continuity: With the evaporator cold (below freezing), disconnect the thermostat and test for continuity. It should read closed (near 0 Ω). An open reading indicates a failed thermostat.
- 4. Check mounting: Ensure the thermostat is firmly clipped to the tubing for proper temperature sensing.
- 5. Replace thermostat: If faulty, install a new Miele-specified defrost safety thermostat and secure it in the original position.
