Freezer displays F3 and compressor may not start or runs erratically

Safety first: Disconnect mains power. The compressor area contains live terminals and hot surfaces.

Steps:

• 1. Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor and control components.
• 2. Listen for behavior (before unplugging): If you previously heard clicking every few minutes with no cooling, suspect the start relay/PTC.
• 3. Inspect start device: Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals. Check the start relay/PTC module for burn marks, cracks, or a burnt smell.
• 4. Test compressor windings: With the start device removed and power disconnected, measure resistance between the three compressor pins. You should see three finite resistances; any open circuit or direct short to the compressor shell indicates a failed compressor.
• 5. Replace start relay/PTC and capacitor: If the compressor tests good, install a new Miele-specified start device and capacitor (if used). Ensure it is firmly seated on the terminals.
• 6. Reassemble and test: Restore power and monitor operation. If F3 returns and the compressor still fails to start, the main control board or compressor itself may be defective.

Warning: Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system. Compressor replacement and refrigerant handling must be done by a certified refrigeration technician.
