Possible Causes
Faulty mechanical thermostat (on basic models), Shorted cabinet NTC sensor, Control board not responding to temperature feedback, Stuck relay driving compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing controls or sensors.
Steps:
- 1. Verify settings: Ensure the temperature is not set to the coldest or SuperFreeze mode.
- 2. Check thermostat (mechanical models): Turn the thermostat knob from coldest to warmest and listen for a click. No click may indicate a failed thermostat that must be replaced.
- 3. Test cabinet sensor (electronic models): Measure NTC resistance and compare to expected values. A shorted sensor will read very low resistance and cause overcooling.
- 4. Control board: If sensor/thermostat is good but the compressor never cycles off, the control relay may be stuck closed, requiring board replacement.
