Freezer displays E7; condenser fan may not run, or unit may overheat and shut down.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before working near the compressor or fan.
- Access condenser area: Remove the lower rear access panel to expose the compressor and condenser fan assembly.
- Visual check: Inspect the fan blade for debris, dust buildup, or anything blocking rotation. Clear obstructions and vacuum the condenser coils.
- Spin test: Gently spin the fan blade by hand. It should move freely without grinding. If stiff or noisy, the motor is likely failing.
- Electrical test: With power off, disconnect the fan motor connector and measure resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Replace fan motor: Remove mounting screws, transfer the fan blade to the new condenser fan motor, reconnect wiring, and reinstall.
If the fan tests good but E7 persists and the fan never receives voltage during operation, the main control board may have a failed fan driver circuit and should be evaluated by a technician.
