Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, ice buildup around fan, loose fan harness connector, defective main control board fan output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing interior panels.
- Listen for fan: When the compressor is running, you should normally hear the evaporator fan inside the freezer. If silent, proceed.
- Access fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
- Check for ice: Look for heavy frost or ice encasing the fan. If present, defrost the area by unplugging the unit and leaving the door open, or use a hair dryer on low, keeping it moving.
- Spin test: Gently spin the fan blade by hand. If it binds or feels rough, the motor is likely bad.
- Electrical test: With power off, disconnect the fan motor and measure resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Replace fan motor: Remove mounting screws, transfer the blade to the new evaporator fan motor, reconnect wiring, and reassemble.
If the fan motor is good but never receives power when the compressor runs, the main control board may be faulty and should be checked by a professional.
