Possible Causes

Failed ambient NTC sensor near control panel, Sensor disconnected from main control module, Damaged harness in control panel area, Faulty main control module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing the control panel or display housing.

Procedure:

  • 1. Locate the ambient sensor: On Neff freezers with E5, the ambient sensor is often located behind the display fascia or in the top/front area of the cabinet.
  • 2. Remove control fascia: Carefully unclip or unscrew the control panel, taking care not to damage ribbon cables or plastic clips.
  • 3. Inspect sensor and wiring: Look for a small NTC sensor probe or capsule connected by two wires. Check for loose connectors, corrosion, or broken wires.
  • 4. Test the sensor: With the freezer unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to typical NTC values (several kΩ at room temperature). An open or shorted reading indicates failure.
  • 5. Replace sensor if faulty: Install a Neff-compatible ambient NTC sensor, routing the wires as originally and securing them away from sharp edges.
  • 6. Reassemble and test: Refit the control panel, restore power, and check if E5 clears. If the error persists with a known-good sensor, the main control module may require replacement by a professional.
