Display shows E6 and the compressor does not start or stops shortly after starting.

Critical safety warning: Work on compressor and start components only with the appliance unplugged. Do not attempt sealed system repairs (refrigerant) without proper certification.

Steps:

• 1. Listen for compressor behavior: After plugging in, listen for clicking or humming from the compressor area. Rapid clicking can indicate a failed start device.
• 2. Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor, start relay/PTC, and wiring.
• 3. Visual inspection: Check for burnt marks on the start relay, loose connectors, or melted plastic. Ensure the compressor is not excessively hot (use caution).
• 4. Test/replace start device: On non-inverter models, remove the start relay/PTC from the compressor pins. If it rattles when shaken or shows signs of burning, replace it with the correct Neff/Bosch group part.
• 5. Inverter models: If your Neff freezer uses an inverter module mounted near the compressor, inspect it for burn marks or bulging components. Inverter diagnosis is complex; replacement should be done by a qualified technician.
• 6. Compressor check: If a new start device does not resolve E6 and the compressor draws locked-rotor current or overheats quickly, the compressor itself may be faulty, requiring professional sealed system service.
