Possible Causes
Failed compressor relay on main control module, Burnt relay contacts due to high current, Damaged PCB tracks feeding compressor, Internal fault in main control module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: The control module operates at mains voltage. Only open the control housing with the appliance unplugged. If you are not experienced with electronics, contact a professional.
Procedure:
- 1. Verify supply voltage: Confirm the wall outlet provides correct voltage and that the freezer power cord and plug are undamaged.
- 2. Listen for relay click: When the freezer calls for cooling, you should hear a click from the control module area. No click may indicate a failed relay or control logic.
- 3. Access the control module: Remove the top or rear control cover (depending on model) to expose the PCB.
- 4. Visual inspection: Look for burnt or cracked relay, darkened PCB around the relay, or broken solder joints. Check the compressor output connector for heat damage.
- 5. Basic repair options: On many Neff units, the relay is not intended to be user-serviceable; the entire control module is replaced. If obvious damage is present, order the correct Neff control module by model and E-number.
- 6. Install replacement module: Transfer connectors one by one from the old board to the new one to avoid miswiring. Secure the board in its housing and reassemble.
- 7. Professional help: If you are not comfortable working with mains-voltage electronics, have an authorized Neff technician diagnose and replace the module.
