Possible Causes

Stuck or shorted temperature sensor reading too warm, Main control PCB relay stuck on, Incorrect thermostat setting or faulty thermostat (mechanical models), Failed ambient sensor causing extended run

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before accessing sensors or the control board.

Steps to address L1 / over‑cooling:

  • 1. Check set temperature: Verify the setpoint on the control panel. Adjust to a warmer setting (e.g., −18°C) and monitor for changes.
  • 2. Inspect temperature sensor: On electronic models, check the cabinet NTC sensor for correct placement and secure mounting. A sensor that has fallen away from the liner or is touching the evaporator can misread temperature.
  • 3. Test sensor resistance: With power off, measure the sensor resistance and compare to expected values. A shorted sensor (very low resistance) can cause the PCB to think it is warm and over‑run the compressor.
  • 4. Mechanical thermostat models: If your New World freezer uses a rotary mechanical thermostat, turn the dial from coldest to warmest and listen for a click. If there is no click or the compressor never stops, the thermostat may be stuck closed and should be replaced.
  • 5. PCB relay check: If sensors/thermostat are OK but the compressor never cycles off, the main control PCB compressor relay may be welded closed. PCB replacement is required.

Note: Over‑cooling wastes energy and can damage some foods. Address this fault promptly.
