Possible Causes

Prolonged power outage with spoiled food, Liquids seeping into insulation through liner cracks, Inadequate cleaning of hidden areas

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Wear gloves and a mask when handling spoiled food or strong odors. Unplug the freezer before cleaning.

Steps to address persistent rotten odors:

  • 1. Remove all contents: Discard any suspect food items.
  • 2. Deep clean: Clean all accessible surfaces thoroughly, including under removable trims and around the door gasket.
  • 3. Check for liner damage: Inspect for cracks or holes where fluids may have entered the insulation. Seal small cracks with food‑safe epoxy.
  • 4. Odor absorbers: Place open containers of bicarbonate of soda or activated charcoal inside the empty freezer for several days.
  • 5. Evaluate replacement: If odors persist despite thorough cleaning, the smell may be embedded in the insulation and not practically removable. Replacement of the appliance may be more economical.

Note: There is no internal part replacement that reliably removes deeply absorbed odors.
