Possible Causes
Worn compressor internal components, Refrigerant pipes hitting cabinet during start/stop, Loose mounting of compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer before adjusting any components at the rear.
Steps to address knocking/banging:
- 1. Confirm source: Listen carefully at the rear to determine if the noise comes from the compressor or from pipes hitting the cabinet.
- 2. Adjust piping: If pipes are knocking, gently reposition them and add foam or rubber spacers to prevent contact with the cabinet.
- 3. Check compressor mounts: Ensure the compressor is firmly secured on its rubber mounts. Replace worn mounting grommets.
- 4. Suspect internal compressor wear: If the noise is clearly from inside the compressor and persists, the compressor may be failing. Cooling may eventually be affected and a professional compressor replacement will be required.
Note: Occasional gurgling or light knocking at start/stop can be normal refrigerant movement; loud, frequent banging is not.
