Possible Causes
Door not sealing properly, Frequent door openings, Failed door gasket, Defective door switch allowing fan to run with door open
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before defrosting heavy frost. Use towels to absorb water.
Steps to reduce frost:
- 1. Inspect door gasket: Look for cracks, tears, or hardened sections. Close the door on a strip of paper at several points; if it pulls out easily, the seal is weak.
- 2. Replace gasket if needed: Remove the old gasket by loosening the retaining screws or pulling it from the channel. Install an RCA-compatible gasket, pressing it evenly into place and tightening screws gradually.
- 3. Check door alignment: Ensure the door is square and level. Adjust hinges if the door is sagging.
- 4. Limit door openings: Organize contents to minimize open time. Avoid leaving the door open while loading/unloading.
- 5. Verify door switch: Make sure the evaporator fan stops when the door is open. If it continues running, replace the door switch to prevent drawing moist air in.
- 6. Manual defrost: Defrost the freezer completely before restarting to remove existing frost.
Tip: A tight door seal is the most important factor in preventing frost buildup.
