How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before extended door work to prevent the compressor from running with the door open.
Steps to replace gasket:
- 1. Order correct gasket: Use the RCA model number to obtain the exact replacement door gasket.
- 2. Remove old gasket: On many RCA freezers, the gasket is held by screws under the inner door liner. Loosen (do not remove) the screws and pull the gasket lip out. On some models, it simply presses into a channel.
- 3. Install new gasket: Starting at the corners, press the new gasket lip under the liner or into the channel. Tighten screws gradually while ensuring the gasket sits flat.
- 4. Warm and shape: Close the door and check for gaps. Use a hair dryer on low to gently warm stiff areas and press them against the frame to improve contact.
- 5. Check seal: Perform the paper test around the door. Adjust hinges or re-seat the gasket if needed.
Tip: It may take a day or two for the new gasket to fully conform and seal.
