Possible Causes
Cabinet not level, Door gasket twisted or out of track, Magnetic gasket too stiff from age, Items inside pushing against door
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before adjusting hinges if you must remove the door.
Steps to improve door closure:
- 1. Check for obstructions: Ensure food packages or baskets are not protruding and hitting the door.
- 2. Level the unit: Adjust leveling feet so the freezer leans slightly back. This helps the door swing closed and stay shut.
- 3. Inspect gasket: Look for sections of the gasket that are twisted or not contacting the frame. Warm the gasket gently with a hair dryer and massage it into shape to improve sealing.
- 4. Adjust hinges: If the door is visibly misaligned, loosen hinge screws slightly, reposition the door, and retighten while holding it in the correct position.
- 5. Replace gasket if needed: If the gasket is hardened or cracked, install an RCA-compatible replacement.
Note: A properly closing door prevents frost buildup and improves efficiency.
