Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice blocking fan blades, Faulty door switch preventing fan operation, Broken fan wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing interior panels. Use gloves to protect from sharp edges.
Steps:
- 1. Confirm fan should run: On many models, the evaporator fan stops when the door is open. Hold the door switch closed to test.
- 2. Access fan: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel to expose the fan and evaporator.
- 3. Check for ice: Remove any ice obstructing the fan. Defrost the area fully if needed.
- 4. Test fan motor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the fan and measure resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit indicates a bad motor.
- 5. Inspect wiring and door switch: Ensure the door switch is working and that wiring to the fan is intact.
- 6. Replace fan motor: Install an RCA-compatible evaporator fan motor and reassemble.
Note: A non-running evaporator fan will cause uneven temperatures and poor cooling.
