Possible Causes

Clogged defrost drain, Drain trough iced over, Door gasket leaking warm air causing excess frost

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before defrosting ice or removing panels. Use towels to catch meltwater.

Steps to clear internal water/ice:

  • 1. Remove ice: Take out food and shelves. Use a plastic scraper to remove loose ice from the bottom. Do not use sharp tools that can puncture the liner.
  • 2. Access drain trough: Remove the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator and drain trough. Look for ice blocking the drain hole.
  • 3. Melt blockage: Use warm water and a turkey baster to melt ice in the drain trough and hole until water flows freely down the tube.
  • 4. Clean drain tube: From the rear, detach the drain tube and flush it with warm water to remove debris.
  • 5. Check door gasket: Inspect the gasket for gaps that allow moist air in. Replace if damaged.
  • 6. Reassemble and monitor: Reinstall panels, restore power, and check periodically for recurrence.

Note: Repeated drain freezing may indicate a defrost heater or thermostat issue that should be further diagnosed.
