Possible Causes
Defective freezer temperature sensor (evaporator sensor), Damaged sensor wiring harness, Corroded or loose sensor connector at main PCB, Faulty main control board (PCB)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer or switch off the circuit breaker before removing panels or handling wiring.
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then restore power. On some Samsung models, press and hold the Power Freeze and Power Cool buttons for 10 seconds to clear a false 1E error. If the code returns, continue.
- Access the freezer sensor: Remove freezer drawers and the rear interior panel (evaporator cover). Look for a small sensor clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted on the liner with two wires leading to it.
- Inspect wiring: Check the sensor wires for cuts, pinches, or ice damage. Ensure the connector is fully seated in the harness and not corroded.
- Test the sensor: Using a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), measure the sensor at room temperature. Samsung NTC sensors are typically around 5 kΩ at 77°F (25°C). If the reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
- Replace the sensor: Disconnect the old sensor, clip or unclip it from the evaporator, and install the new Samsung-compatible evaporator sensor in the same position. Route wires away from sharp edges and moving parts.
- Reassemble and test: Reinstall the evaporator cover and drawers, restore power, and monitor for 1E returning. If the error persists with a known-good sensor, the main PCB may be faulty and should be diagnosed or replaced by a professional.
