Possible Causes
Defrost heater failure, Defrost thermostat or sensor failure, Blocked defrost drain causing ice accumulation, Door gasket leak allowing humid air in, Door frequently left ajar
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Warning: Unplug the freezer before defrosting or removing panels.
- Manual defrost: Remove food, unplug the unit, and leave doors open until all ice melts. Use towels to absorb water. Do not chip ice with sharp tools.
- Check door gasket and closure: Inspect the Samsung gasket for gaps or tears. Ensure the door closes fully and is not obstructed.
- Inspect defrost drain: Remove the rear interior panel and locate the drain hole under the evaporator. Clear any ice or debris with warm water and a turkey baster.
- Test defrost components: With the evaporator exposed, test the defrost heater and thermostat for continuity (see defrost error entries). Replace faulty parts.
- Reassemble and monitor: After repairs, reassemble and restore power. Monitor for recurring frost over 1–2 weeks. Persistent issues may indicate a control board problem.
