Possible Causes

Loose or oxidized ribbon cable between display panel and main PCB, Faulty touch control panel, Moisture ingress into control fascia, Failed main control PCB communication circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing the control panel or touching any wiring.

Steps:

  • Inspect control panel: Check for signs of moisture, condensation, or physical damage on the front display and buttons.
  • Remove control housing: On Sharp upright freezers, the control panel is usually at the top front. Remove the screws securing the housing and gently pull it forward.
  • Check ribbon cable / harness: Locate the flat ribbon or multi-wire connector between the user interface board and the main PCB. Reseat the connector: unplug, inspect for corrosion or bent pins, and plug back in firmly.
  • Dry and clean: If moisture is present, allow the panel to dry completely. Clean light corrosion with electronic contact cleaner and a soft brush.
  • Test operation: Reassemble loosely, restore power, and test buttons. If E6 persists and controls remain unresponsive, the user interface board or main PCB may be defective.
  • Replace faulty board: If the display lights but does not respond, replace the user interface/control panel assembly. If the panel is dark or communication errors persist with a known-good panel, replace the main control PCB.

Note: Handle electronic boards by the edges and avoid static discharge by grounding yourself before touching components.
