Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Open or weak compressor start winding, Overheated or failed overload protector, Main control PCB not supplying correct start voltage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety: Unplug the freezer. Work in the compressor area only if you are comfortable around mains voltage and capacitors. If unsure, contact a professional.
Steps:
- Access compressor components: Remove the rear lower cover to expose the compressor, start relay/PTC, and overload protector.
- Inspect relay and overload: Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals. Check the start relay/PTC and overload for burn marks, rattling (loose internal parts), or melted plastic.
- Test compressor windings: With all wires removed from the compressor, measure resistance between the three pins (common, start, run). You should get three readings; none should be open. If any winding is open or shorted to the compressor shell (check for continuity to ground), the compressor is faulty.
- Replace start components: If the compressor windings test good, replace the start relay/PTC and overload protector with Sharp-approved parts.
- Check control output: After reassembly, restore power and listen for the compressor to start. If it still does not start and E8 persists, the main control PCB may not be sending proper voltage to the start circuit.
- Professional service: If the compressor itself is defective or if sealed system work is required, this should be handled by a licensed refrigeration technician.
