Possible Causes

Failed defrost heater, Open defrost thermostat or thermal fuse, Faulty defrost sensor (evaporator thermistor), Main control PCB not initiating defrost

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the freezer before removing the evaporator cover or testing components.

Steps:

  • Manual defrost: Remove food, unplug the unit, and allow all ice to melt. Use towels to catch water. Do not use sharp tools to chip ice.
  • Access components: Remove the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator, defrost heater, thermostat, and sensor.
  • Test heater and thermostat: As described under E5, check resistance of the heater and continuity of the defrost thermostat/thermal fuse. Replace any open components.
  • Check defrost sensor: Test the evaporator thermistor for proper resistance change with temperature. Replace if faulty.
  • Control board: If all hardware tests good, the main PCB may not be initiating defrost cycles. Replace the board if confirmed.
