Freezer shows E20 and may emit a continuous alarm tone; temperature may be too high.

Possible Causes

Door left open or not sealing, Heavy warm food load recently added, Failed compressor or low refrigerant charge, Evaporator heavily iced due to defrost failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: No internal electrical work is required for basic checks, but unplug the freezer before removing panels.

  • 1. Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and the gasket contacts the cabinet all around. Remove any items blocking closure.
  • 2. Inspect door gasket: Look for tears, gaps, or hardened sections. Warm the gasket with a hair dryer and reshape if slightly deformed.
  • 3. Consider recent usage: If you recently loaded large quantities of unfrozen food, allow 12–24 hours for temperature to stabilize. E20 may clear automatically.
  • 4. Listen for compressor and fan: Confirm that the compressor and internal fan (on no-frost models) are running. If silent, investigate power, control, or compressor faults.
  • 5. Check for frost buildup: Remove drawers and inspect the rear panel for thick ice. If present, perform a full manual defrost and then monitor operation.
  • 6. Reset alarm: Use the alarm reset button (if provided) after temperature has dropped back into the safe range.

Important: If E20 persists despite good door sealing and normal operation sounds, there may be a sealed-system issue (e.g., refrigerant leak) requiring a refrigeration technician.
